Why must we disinfect?

Simply to eliminate the microorganisms which are hazardous to humans and their environment

It is predicted that there will be 9.5 billion humans on the planet in 2050, with nearly 90 million more people per year. This increase in population tends to increase microbial risk. The change in lifestyle also accentuates the risk of contamination on a daily basis. We are increasingly mobile (travel, business trips, public transport...), we eat food from everywhere and increasingly fragment our meals, eating with our hands, which also increases the risk of contamination.

Many infections are propagated by indirect contact when microbes are transferred via hands, from a contaminated object (door handle, telephone, remote control, chopping board, etc.) to our body. Since our hands touch many surfaces during the day, they are the main vector for transferring microbes into our nose, mouth or eyes and onto other surfaces which will carry the microbes to other people.

To prevent the proliferation of microbes and hence the risk of disease, some of which are serious, our environment must be disinfected ("the Healthy Gesture"). Because cleanliness and disinfection are essential to remain in good health.

  • A single bacterial cell generates a colony of 8 million bacteria in less than 24h.
  • 80% of infectious diseases are propagated by the hands (influenza, bronchitis, gastroenteritis...)
